Smoothing the Way is a support group dedicated to serving first-year homeschooling mothers. Each month a topic of specific interest to the new homeschooler is offered. Veteran homeschooling moms and guest speakers are available to inform and encourage those who have decided to take on the exciting, yet sometimes daunting, task of educating their own children.

August — Getting Off to a Great Start!

We will discuss general homeschooling issues, the father's role in homeschooling, and just spend time getting to know each other. Your spouse is invited to this meeting.

September — Organizing Your Time

Yearly scheduling, daily scheduling, lesson plans, outside activities, cooking tips, etc.

October — Understanding Your Child

What is your child's learning style? What is your teaching style? Understanding these important concepts will help you with many of the choices you face in educating your child.

November — Avoiding Resistance in Your Student

Tips for dealing with frustration and avoiding tantrums and tears. Ways to avoid resistant behavior, and advice for dealing with it when it does occur.

December — Choosing Curriculum

Are you totally overwhelmed by the amount of curriculum available? Spend the evening looking at a variety of material and talking with the veterans who have used it.
